10 Video Games That Ruin their own Potential

As busiest time of the year arrives, maybe it is also the time to remember the danger on pre-ordering a game into world of PR-driven marketing with the use of internet. Not every game could or need to be a Game of the Year contender, but as gamers it is very frustrating when a great game’s sequel not delivering on the expectations.
A great game like Metal Gear Solid V delivers the expectation, there are games also that failed to do this, and instead of this games they settle on silver (or some on bronze), this does not means that this following games are entertaining for almost 100% then fail the into the last.
Many of these game could have been masterpieces, and all of them could be at least a great game, due to failure in innovation and lack in diligence, the results were passable yet but not much more.

Here the list of the 10 video games that ruined their own potential:



1.      Destiny (2014)




The Expectation: The game’s developer Bungie sold their Halo follow-up as the combination of first-person shooter and MMORPG, the players for this game can be able to navigate, the very dangerous universe while teaming up with fellow players for Halo gunplay.

This Happened:  
* Universe is like a small collection of planets
* Missions are repetitive
* Peter Drinklage sounds half-sleep
* leveling up after level 20 is very hard
* over-price DLC




2.      Assassin Creed (2007)



The Expectation: The games is unquestionable one of the most anticipated titles of the seventh generation of gaming. The game has an incredible visual graphics, a sense of freedom in a very large sandbox and a rich content for history that most game don’t have.

This Happened:
* Gameplay was tedious
* Repetitive task in ever mission
* A incredible amount work on the first
* Core template feels very lazy and unimaginative




3.      Star Wars: The Old Republic (2011)



The Expectation: These game is expected to dethrone the game World of Warcraft, as the King of MMORPG. The game was benefiting in huge fan base of Star Wars (also an enormous budget of $200 million) and without the handicap of being the new franchise, it seems to be destined to deliver a landmark on MMORPG.

This Happened:
* It does differentiate itself from other PRG game
* It feels like a WOW rather than to surpass it
* Quest are repetitive and generic
* The Presence of MMO community is not there




4.      Grand Theft Auto Online (2013)



The Expectation: Rock Star Games promise that this game would be a significant expansion to GTA IV death match style, with San Andreas is the playing ground. They introduce, leveling up, missions and co-operative heist.

This Happened:
* Missions are repetitive
* Heist is being constant delayed
* Constant crushing of game (heist mode)




5.      WWE 2K15 (2014)



The Expectation: This game was release for the first time in the platform of Sony PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, also first of which 2K Sports bring co-developer Visual Concepts for motion capture of the WWE superstars, to be more authentic.

This Happened:
* Online Lobby is difficult to navigate
* The gameplay ended up tedious
* Graphics looks like a late 7th gen hardware similar to other games




6.      Final Fantasy XIII (2009)



The Expectation: A lot people get excited when this game will be played in Sony PlayStation 3 as the first Final Fantasy for that platform. With the fluid gameplay and incredible graphics there’s no reason not to expect a good delivery from this game.

This Happened:
* The developer lost interest on the series
Unlikable characters
* A massive chunk of game feels a long corridor
* The games is “one and done”




7.      Matrix Online (2005)



The Expectation: This game is largely base on Matrix movie franchise. It will be the continuation of the movie Matrix Revolution, many fans are eager to find it out what happened to Neo after the third movie.

This Happened:
* The game was an ambitious failure
* Plot is widely undercooked
* The game did not link to the movies
* Gameplay is a typical MMO fare
* The games combat weirdly become dull after hours of playtime
* The servers never become largely populated




8.      L.A. Noire (2011)



The Expectation: One of the most anticipated game for Sony PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game promise a trailer of Noir in video game format, with complete of photo-realistic character up to date to that time, and it will gonna published by Rock Star games.

This Happened:
* The game was more style than a substance
* Repetitive task
* After 3rd and 4th dead hooker shows up
* Various detective mini-games repeated themselves
* Climax was sure to prove divisive




9.      Sim City (2013)



The Expectation: The long-awaited game for the SimCity franchise, in which a players can build their own new expanse with incredible visuals and a brand new engine. Up to this point, this series hasn’t failed any fans.

This Happened:
* Connection problem from the server
* Countless bugs on Glassbox engine
* An offline version wasn’t release for entire year
* The core gameplay was fun enough if it works




10.  Watch Dogs(2014)



The Expectation: This game was anticipated that it would GTA V a run for its money. Marketing played-up, players have freedom to use ability to hack anything around the game, which naturally, looks visually stunning.


This Happened:
* Visual is “downgraded” from original demo
* The plot feels like generic, cookie cutter revenge story
* Gameplay looks like a re-skinned Assassin Creed
* Almost all missions are same
