This series compares the monthly and lifetime sales of the 8th generation of home consoles - the
PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U.
Looking at the total sales of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and
Wii U in Europe in August we can how much the PlayStation 4 has continued to
dominate hardware sales in the region; its lead has continued to grow month
after month. It has now sold significantly more than the Xbox One and Wii U
combined and has 62 percent market share.
The PS4
has sold 9.93 million units lifetime, the Xbox One 3.63 million units, and the
Wii U 2.40 million units.

The PlayStation 4 has outsold both the Xbox One and Wii U every month since it launched in November 2013. The Xbox One outsold the Wii U in August for the 13th straight month. The PS4 outsold the Xbox One by 171,019 units for the month and the Wii U by 194,204. The Xbox One outsold the Wii U by 22,185 units.
When you compare monthly sales to a year ago the Xbox One is up, while the PlayStation 4 and Wii U are down. The PlayStation 4 is down 14,186 units, the Xbox One is up 3,809 units, and the Wii U is down 14,304 units.
